Causes of Engine Damage
Prolonged Overheating
An engine that’s overheating for a prolonged period of time is one that’s at risk of catastrophic failure. On the one hand, you may blow a head gasket. Although this is certainly severe, it’s repairable. On the other hand, an engine that’s overheating yet operated anyway may get so hot that the pistons within it get welded to the cylinders themselves. Very rarely is this fixable, meaning you’ll need an entirely new engine. In other words, driving with an overheating engine is not a good idea.
Malfunctioning EGR Valve
If your EGR valve begins to malfunction, your EGR system may start funneling far too much of your exhaust back into your combustion chamber. Common symptoms associated with a malfunctioning EGR valve include very poor performance, constant stalling, and hard starts. Fortunately, we here at Freeway Truck Repair offer services designed for this issue in particular. Visit our EGR and DPF services page for more information!
